Meet the Coach

Everyone has a story; each one different, and yet the same. Every new experience brings us opportunities to learn and grow. What is your story? How have race and gender shaped you? Do you feel limited by these concepts, or empowered? I’ve been helping people deal with the impact of race in their daily lives for decades now, and I want to hear your story.

I’m Kimberly Pollock, and I am a Race and Gender Life Coach. My story begins when the Civil Rights movement, the Women’s movement and all the movements of people towards freedom, became the backdrop for hopeful, professional Black couples raising their children to live in a world where they believed the laws would finally apply to all, equally. They raised intelligent, competent and impactful children in a nation that seemed ready to live up to the stories of freedom that some tell themselves can only happen in America.  My childhood, filled with books, music, dance, art and history, was designed to produce young Black adults that were so educated, polished and refined that everyone would see beyond our race into the beauty of our souls.

I have studied the impact of race and gender in our society. These concepts shape everyone’s ability to learn, work, play, grow and to create meaningful lives. Are you satisfied with the life you have created? Are there parts of you that are ready to grow in a new direction, to be conscious of your own power and ability to shape your life?

Maybe it’s time you begin a new adventure of self-discovery and empowerment!

Living in a world that was not designed for you can leave you feeling drained. Do you want someone to talk things over with? Do you need help dealing with that supervisor or co-worker who seems to have difficulty with your style of communication, way of dressing, or even the volume of your voice? Is living in a world that was not designed for you, leaving you completely drained? Would you like a space where being your full authentic self is not only allowed, but is encouraged? Come talk with me. Together we can create a plan that will allow you to not only survive the demands of your life, but to begin to flourish.

How do you find your way when our political ground is on fire? Trusting others is difficult when truth has become negotiable.  I want to hear your story. I’ll listen, and show you how to reflect on what is happening in your life, so that you can make a plan for the next life adventure of your own choosing.

I bring a great ear, critical thinking skills, a vast knowledge gathered from years of reading, research, and uncanny ability to explain complex ideas in a way that make sense. I have a B.A. in Humanities from Shimer College, a M.A. and PhD work in English from University of Southwestern Louisiana, now the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. I studied in Oxford, and I created the Department of Cultural and Ethnic Studies at Bellevue College in Washington State. I began teaching college in 1985, and have taught at Bellevue since 1993. I have teaching experience at Independent Schools, the University of New Orleans as well.

If anything here speaks to you, please reach out. I’d love to work with you to make your life all that you want it to be.
